Bill Parcells isn't driven by entertainment value.
But the Miami Dolphins boss made a fun selection Saturday with the 44th overall draft choice. The Dolphins, who introduced the Wildcat offense last year, grabbed West Virginia quarterback-slash-receiver Pat White.
Oh, the possibilities.
Offensive coordinator Dan Henning and quarterbacks coach David Lee are going to enjoy their new toy.
Running back Ronnie Brown ran the Wildcat last year, but White would make the direct-snap formation even more dangerous with an added passing dimension. The Dolphins also could insert him for Chad Pennington, who was split so wide on Wildcat plays they essentially were reduced to 10 players.
Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland spoke about White at a pre-draft news conference. Ireland wouldn't give away the playbook, but he had plenty of praise for White.
"I think Pat White is a terrific player," Ireland said. "He's a terrific leader. In terms of how he fits in our offense, again, that's strategy. I'm not going to talk about it or where we have him on the board for that matter.
"He's certainly a great athlete. He certainly has a lot of qualities that are intriguing to a lot of teams and I think whoever drafts him is going to have a great player."
