Teel fits the profile for quarterbacks drafted by Seahawks general manager Tim Ruskell in that he's a three-year starter from a major conference.
But in consulting Pro Football Weekly's draft guide, I found two lines under "postives" and 11 lines under "negatives" in Teel's entry, including the claim that he "panics under pressure and shows little poise in the pocket. Stares down receivers and telegraphs throws. Looks like a statue in the pocket and has marginal foot quickness and mobility to improvise."
We'll see what Ruskell and vice president Ruston Webster say about Teel when they address reporters later in the day.
The spot in which Seattle drafted Teel -- 178th overall -- diverges from precedent. Ruskell's teams have previously sought quarterbacks in the third-round range. The 2009 draft didn't seem to offer many prospects in that value range. Teel does become the Seahawks' developmental quarterback for 2009 at least, probably at the expense of Jeff Rowe.
