Bills GM Buddy Nix: 'It's time'

Buffalo Bills general manager Buddy Nix knows the expectations are high for his team. This is the most hype the Bills have received in a long time, and anything short of a winning record would be a disappointment.

Nix acknowledged the expectations Tuesday upon his arrival to training camp.

"We've done some things right," Nix said, according to the team's website. “But it's time for us to close it out and win some games.

“We have to step up. It's time.”

Translation: The front office did a good job buying the groceries. Now “it’s time” for the coaching staff and players to cook the meal.

I agree with Nix's assessment. The Bills did nearly everything right this offseason. They drafted well with two likely starters in cornerback Stephon Gilmore and left tackle Cordy Glenn, and Buffalo nabbed defensive ends Mario Williams and Mark Anderson in free agency. The Bills also took care of their own by re-signing No. 1 receiver Steve Johnson and starting tailback Fred Jackson to extensions.

On paper, Buffalo has playoff potential. The front office spent money and put the team in position to win. But being good on paper doesn't guarantee a playoff push. As Nix would say, "it's time" for the players and coaches to do their part. It starts this week.
