Sunday Countdown: Thomas, Davis, more

"Sunday NFL Countdown" airs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. ET on ESPN. Below are some of the features you can see this week.

Also, check out our experts’ picks.

Demaryius Thomas: He caught one of the most surprising touchdowns in NFL history during last year’s wild-card playoffs. This year, Demaryius Thomas has become one of Peyton Manning’s favorite targets. That Thomas has risen to NFL stardom is a testament to his drive and perseverance after a difficult upbringing. Thomas’ mother and grandmother are currently in prison on life sentences, guilty of making and selling illegal drugs in their home. Tom Jackson chronicles Thomas’ rise, from a shattered home to starting in the NFL.

Vernon Davis: It was one of the more unforgettable moments of the 2008 season -- then-49ers head coach Mike Singletary banishing Vernon Davis from the field during a game. Since then, Davis has become a leader in San Francisco, and has cited that moment as a turning point in his career. Sunday, Davis and the 49ers visit Minnesota, where Mike Singletary is currently an assistant coach. Trent Dilfer looks back at that moment in 2008 and the different paths both Davis and Singletary have taken since the incident.

The Gronk: Rob Gronkowski may be the best tight end in the game, but he hardly fits the Patriots’ mold. Jeremy Schaap discovers what it’s like hanging around with the Gronk, especially when they go on a shopping expedition.

Mangini Film Room: Who better than Eric Mangini to give the X’s and O’s behind the crucial AFC matchup between the Patriots and Ravens? Mangini has both teams blanketed and gives you the keys you may not expect between these two rivals.
