Ravens backup back sits out Thursday

Ravens backup running back Bernard Pierce missed practice Thursday, a day after he said he would play in Sunday's AFC Championship Game. He was limited Wednesday with a knee injury.

Pierce aggravated a knee injury in the third quarter of Saturday's double-overtime win in Denver. With Pierce out, Ray Rice finished with a season-high 30 carries. He hadn't had more than 25 carries in a single game this year before the divisional playoff game. If Pierce can't play Sunday, that would mean another full workload for Rice. Anthony Allen would become the backup running back, but the Ravens probably wouldn't give him more than four to five touches.

Fullback Vonta Leach was limited Thursday with knee and ankle injuries. Leach dealt with those same injuries last week and still played.

Backup cornerback Asa Jackson (thigh) missed his second straight practice, and reserve receiver David Reed (thigh) was once again limited in practice. There were 17 Ravens players who were listed as full participants in practice.

For the Patriots, defensive end Chandler Jones (ankle) was limited in practice for a second straight day. Running back Danny Woodhead (thumb) had a full practice after being limited on Wednesday.
