NEW ORLEANS -- Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco continued his strong postseason with an impressive start in the Super Bowl. Showing off his pocket presence and big arm, Flacco completed 13 of 20 for 192 yards and three touchdowns in the first half as the Ravens took a 21-6 lead.
On his first drive, he hit Anquan Boldin over the middle for a 13-yard touchdown. In the second quarter, Flacco converted in the red zone again with a one-yard touchdown pass to Dennis Pitta. Both times he hit his targets despite small windows.
Then, after the Ravens failed on a fake field goal, Flacco came through again by flinging a 56-yard touchdown toss to Jacoby Jones to put the Ravens up 21-3 with 1:45 left before halftime. Jones fell down at the nine-yard line untouched and got back up to beat cornerback Chris Culliver to the end zone.
Flacco now has 11 touchdown passes in these playoffs, tying the NFL record for most in a single postseason.
