Dan Connor scheduled to visit Steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers could end up being more active in free agency than most anticipated. Pittsburgh has a visit scheduled with Dallas Cowboys inside linebacker Dan Connor, according to ESPNDallas.

The Steelers had some contract talks with Larry Foote, last year's starter at inside linebacker, a month ago. But there has been speculation that Foote is headed to Arizona in free agency.

That means the Steelers have to find someone to team up with Lawrence Timmons on the inside. Connor, 27, spent four seasons with the Panthers before joining the Cowboys last season. He started eight games as an injury replacement and was cut Monday because he doesn't fit the new 4-3 defense under Monte Kiffin.

The Steelers freed up $5.1 million in cap room when they released linebacker James Harrison last weekend and could open up $5.5 million more if they designate guard Willie Colon as a June 1 cut.
