Da'Quan Bowers headed to court

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers should know more about the future of defensive end Da'Quan Bowers on Thursday.

Bowers has a hearing related to the felony charges he faces for carrying a gun into a New York airport. Bowers’ attorney previously told The Tampa Tribune he was confident his client would be fully exonerated.

The Buccaneers clearly share that belief. Team officials have said all along that they don’t think Bowers will have to serve any prison time.

Tampa Bay’s offseason actions have backed up that belief. They let defensive end Michael Bennett, who led the team in sacks last season, depart as a free agent. Although Bennett had been productive, the Bucs were willing to let him walk because they wanted to give Bowers, who they believe has more upside, more playing time.
