I went into ESPN.com’s blog network mock draft knowing I wanted to get a pass-rusher for the New Orleans Saints at No. 15 overall.
Mission accomplished. I chose Georgia outside linebacker Jarvis Jones.
I had some other backup plans in place, but I went into the draft focusing on Jones and LSU’s Barkevious Mingo. I was torn between the two, but the decision to take Jones was made easy because Mingo came off the board before the Saints got on the clock.
I feel good about the Jones pick because I think he brings a skill set that will fit nicely in coordinator Rob Ryan’s defensive scheme. Jones can rush the passer from the edge and the Saints desperately need to improve their pass rush.
I know the Saints also could use some help at cornerback. But I think that adding Jones and his pass-rushing skills make the cornerbacks already on the roster much better.
