Jets get 'Revis insurance' with Dee Milliner

The first big move for New York Jets rookie general manager John Idzik was to trade star cornerback Darrelle Revis. His second major move was to find insurance in the draft.

MillinerMillinerIdzik and the Jets got their “Revis insurance” with the No. 9 overall pick Thursday night. New York took Alabama cornerback Dee Milliner, who is widely regarded as the top cornerback in this draft.

New York had to be disappointed that LSU defensive end Barkevious Mingo (No. 6 to Cleveland Browns) and West Virginia receiver Tavon Austin (No. 8 to the St. Louis Rams) were taken just ahead of the Jets. The Jets were targeting both players. The Jets didn’t need a cornerback with Pro Bowler Antonio Cromartie and former first-round pick Kyle Wilson already on the roster. But with two first-round picks in a rebuilding year, New York can afford to take the best available player on its board, even if it doesn't fill a need.

On a side note, the Buffalo Bills traded their No. 8 pick with the Rams for their No. 16 pick and a second rounder. Buffalo and St. Louis also swapped third-round picks.
