Bills' Spiller excused from practice

Buffalo Bills running back C.J. Spiller was excused from practice Monday to be with his family in Florida, head coach Doug Marrone said.

Reports in Florida said that Spiller's step-grandfather, Hubert Allen, Jr., shot four people in Lake Butler on Saturday. Two of the victims died, and Allen, 72, later killed himself.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims as well as C.J. and his family in this situation," Marrone said after Monday's practice. "We’re in communication; I don’t have any answer of when he’s going to come back."

Spiller played in Saturday's preseason game against the Washington Redskins, hours after the incident.
