A weekly examination of the Rams' ESPN.com Power Ranking:
Preseason: 15 | Last Week: 17 | ESPN.com Power Ranking since 2002
The Rams dipped in the rankings for the second week in a row, this time dropping three spots from 17th to 20th after an embarrassing 31-7 loss to the Dallas Cowboys.
The six-member voting panel viewed the Rams in similar terms with two voters placing them at No. 19, one at No. 20 and one at No. 21. The best ranking the Rams received was No. 18 from Dan Graziano, and the lowest was No. 22 from Kevin Seifert.
My initial reaction to seeing the Rams drop just three spots was a bit of surprise. I wondered if the voting panel saw much of the debacle in Dallas. The Rams are 1-2, which isn't a surprise given that they're coming off road games in Atlanta and Dallas. It's the way the Rams played against the Cowboys and for most of the Atlanta game combined with some of the alarming trends from the first three weeks that had me believing they'd drop into the bottom third this week.
Alas, it's hard to find teams below the Rams that should definitely be ahead of them. Carolina and Philadelphia have good arguments, but the rest of the list is full of teams that have looked worse in their first three games.
