A weekly examination of the Eagles’ ESPN.com Power Ranking:
Preseason: 25| Last Week: 19 | ESPN.com Power Ranking since 2002
It would be hard for anyone, including Chip Kelly, to argue with the plunge the Eagles took this week. They fell seven spots, more than any other team this week. They fell just as hard on the field. The Eagles haven’t scored an offensive touchdown in two weeks, and they lost their 10th home game in a row Sunday -- a scary-ugly 15-7 loss to the New York Giants. Just to twist the knife a bit, ESPN’s panel still ranked the Giants (No. 29) below the Eagles. A closer look at the voting shows the Eagles would be lower if not for the faith shown by one John Clayton, who still has them at No. 19. Everyone else had them in the mid- to high 20s.
This week’s poll was significant, too, because it represented a drop beyond the preseason ranking. That means the Eagles, in Kelly’s first season, are now failing to meet even mediocre expectations.
