AFC West Week 9 decisive moment

The Oakland Raiders were scrambling to find a way to keep the game, and perhaps their chances in the AFC West race, alive. There were 30 seconds left and the Raiders were trailing Kansas City, 20-17.

It was first-and-20, after a holding penalty by rookie left tackle Jared Veldheer, and it was now-or-never time for the Raiders.

So, they might as well look for Jacoby Ford.

Oakland quarterback Jason Campbell dropped back and threw a rifle shot to Ford. Ford already had put Oakland back in the game with a 94-yard kickoff return for a score to open the second half, which had cut the Chiefs’ lead to 10-7. The problem was, Ford was double covered. Well, no problem, after all. In one of the best plays of the NFL season, Ford magically took an interception out of Brandon Flowers’ hands and caught a 29-yard pass to the Chiefs’ 22. After Campbell spiked the ball with seven seconds to go, Sebastian Janikowski nailed a 41-yard field goal to send the game to overtime.

Ford’s heroics were not over. On Oakland’s first play of overtime Campbell hit Ford for a 47-yard bomb to the Chiefs’ 15 to set up a short Janikowski field goal. With the win, Oakland, 5-4, pulled within a half-game of first-place Kansas City, 5-3.
