Chiefs' Sanders Commings was cousin of Charleston shooting victim

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Kansas City Chiefs safety Sanders Commings said he is a cousin of Charleston, South Carolina, shooting victim Clementa Pinckney.

Commings sent this message through his Twitter account:

Commings, through the Chiefs' public relations staff, declined to answer questions. Commings was practicing with the Chiefs on Thursday as they conclude their mandatory minicamp.

"He’s doing OK," coach Andy Reid. "That’s a pretty big shock. He’ll be able to head back (now that camp is over) and take care of business."

Pinckney, 41, was one of nine people killed in the shootings Wednesday night at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston. He was a reverend at the church.

Commings, 25, joined the Chiefs as a fifth-round draft pick in 2013. He played in college at Georgia.
