Eastern Conference semifinals notes

No. 7 Washington Capitals vs No. 1 New York Rangers

• The Rangers (155) and Capitals (139) are first and second, respectively, in blocked shots this postseason.

• Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist controlled his rebounds well in the first round as he allowed just one goal from a follow-up shot; the Capitals’ Braden Holtby has allowed five goals from rebounds from his 15 total against this postseason.

• The Rangers have scored only once in the 15 power-play chances at home this postseason; the Capitals have killed 12 of 13 penalties on the road.

• The Capitals’ Alex Ovechkin has scored nine of his 23 playoff goals since 2009 from either the right or left circles.

No. 6 New Jersey Devils vs. No. 5 Philadelphia Flyers

• All 18 goals the Devils scored in their first-round series came from their forwards.

• Special teams boosted the Flyers as they converted 12-of-23 power-play chances and scored three shorthanded goals in the first round.

• The Flyers kept their shots low against Penguins in the first round as they scored 20 of their 30 goals in the series through the low stick and gloves sides or the 5-hole.

• The Devils’ Martin Brodeur will have to control his rebounds, especially on the penalty kill. Brodeur allowed five goals from rebounds in the first round, including three on the power play.
