Will the Red Wings make the playoffs?

With 23 games left to play, the Detroit Red Wings are clinging to the second wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference.

They've been bitten by the injury bug all season and it won’t get any better down the stretch with Henrik Zetterberg out for the rest of the season after leaving the Olympics to have back surgery.

Johan Franzen has returned from injury, but Pavel Datsyuk isn't 100 percent.

It has been a long time since the Red Wings missed the postseason -- to be precise, the 1989-90 season was the last time they sat out the playoffs.

The last time Detroit missed the playoffs:

  • You were watching the first season of "The Simpsons."

  • "Home Alone," "Dances with Wolves," "Pretty Woman," "Ghost" and "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" were playing in theaters.

  • "The Cosby Show" was No. 1 on television.

  • Milli Vanilli had just won the Grammy for best new artist.

  • A gallon of gas cost $1.34.

  • Mike Babcock was coaching at Red Deer College.

  • Tomas Jurco, Riley Sheahan and Tomas Tatar were not born yet.

It's a simple question. Yes or no. Will the Red Wings make the postseason?
