Habs' Campoli frustrated by lack of ice time

Montreal blueliner Chris Campoli is slated for unrestricted free agency, and he knows he might be on the move in the next week.

"All year we’ve had a number of defensemen [on the roster], more than I’ve ever seen in my career, really," Campoli told ESPN.com on Monday. "So I think for a while guys have known that there was a possibility someone would move. Hal [Gill] moved, and it’s getting closer to the deadline, so it’s in the back of your mind that the possibility is there. It happened to me last year when I went to Chicago."

Campoli went from Ottawa to Chicago and played in 19 regular-season games plus six playoff games with the Blackhawks and didn’t look out of place.

"That was some of the best hockey I’ve played in my career," Campoli said. "I wanted to carry that into this year, but it hasn’t happened."

Instead, Campoli was injured early on and has since struggled to find his place in a lineup where Montreal has dressed seven defensemen on most nights the past two months.

"Since Christmas, being in and out of the lineup, I think I’ve been a healthy scratch maybe 10 times. It’s frustrating, no doubt," Campoli said. "When you’re going weeks in between games, it’s been tough finding consistency and confidence in your game."

Still, this guy can help a playoff-bound team. He’s got good puck-moving skills and can move up and down a team's second or third pair.

"I think there’s an opportunity there for me to help somebody, I don’t know, but my focus now is here to help this team win," Campoli said. "I think it’s unprofessional if that wasn’t my focus."
