No. 11 North Carolina will face its second foe in three days when it plays Florida Atlantic at the Smith Center at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday. The Owls are led by former St. John's coach Mike Jarvis, along with senior guard Greg Gantt, who averaged 14.0 ppg last season and is the second-leading scorer in school history.
A few things to watch:
REGGIE BULLOCK’S POINTS
UNC coach Roy Williams said his starting small forward was almost too team-oriented during Friday’s season-opening win over Gardner-Webb, burying the Tar Heels’ only 3-pointer but going 2-for-4 for five points. Williams was pleased with the junior’s nine rebounds, but it sounds like he would like to see more offense out of him.
"Reggie [Bullock] was almost unselfish to a fault tonight,’’ Williams said Friday. “He's got to take a couple more of the shots, and guys have got to be willing to screen for him to get him open, too."
Especially because the Tar Heels were only 1-for-12 from 3-point range.
After watching sophomore Desmond Hubert make his first start at forward, only to be replaced by freshman Joel James in the opening five in the second half, it will be interesting to see who starts -- and finishes -- in the post along with James Michael McAdoo.
MARCUS PAIGE’S ASSISTS
The Tar Heels’ starting freshman point guard was not too happy with his zero assists and four turnovers in his career opener. How quickly do you think he’ll pick up his first assist, if for no other reason than to get it out of his system?
