Joel Berry's travel team coach, Burney Hayes, confirmed to ESPN's Dave Telep that the point guard -- rated the No. 12 overall prospect in the Class of 2014 -- is "heading to the powder blue crew."
Berry is a combination of scoring, leadership and speed. With the ability to get into the lane, he is projected as a perfect fit for North Carolina's up-tempo, transition offense. He'll allow Roy Williams to play at the speed he wishes alongside lefty point guard Marcus Paige.
Paige, a UNC freshman, is starting this season. The Tar Heels also add another point guard, Nate Britt, next season.
Berry, a 6-foot standout from Lakeland Highland (Fla.) Prep, is the first member of the 2014 class to commit to UNC.
For more on what he'll add to the Tar Heels, here's Reggie Rankin's breakdown.
