Player of the week: Notre Dame

Everett Golson has done a whole lot to put away any supposed quarterback controversy during the home stretch of his first year as starter.

Saturday may have been the redshirt freshman's best performance of the season, completing 20 of 30 passes for 346 yards with three touchdowns and one pick in leading the Irish to a 38-0 win over Wake Forest.

In leading the Irish to their first perfect home record in 14 years, Golson earned FBS independent player of the week honors, and he is our Notre Dame player of the week as well.

Golson equaled a career-long completion with his 50-yard touchdown pass to John Goodman in the second quarter, and he had the Irish up 21-0 just more than 10 minutes in.

He got to sit in the third quarter, giving way to Tommy Rees, but this was the first home game in which Golson had not been pulled for production or health issues.

He's got himself four of those independent player of the week honors now. And, more importantly, he's got the Irish atop the national rankings with an 11-0 record, one win away from a spot in the national title game.
