Tyler Eifert made a guest appearance Thursday on the Mike & Mike show to preview NFL draft preparations and recap his career at Notre Dame.
Mike Hill and Mark Schlereth filled in for Mike Golic and Mike Greenberg, and they touched on a variety of topics, including Notre Dame playing for the national title, the potential for Eifert to land on the cover of "NCAA Football '14" and the Manti Te'o girlfriend hoax.
"I'm not going to say much on it except that I didn't know about it," Eifert said of the Te'o hoax. "I just know Manti, he's a good kid with a good heart. He's been one of my best friends for the past four years, and I think he's handled the situation really great and he's trying to move past it. It kind of came at a bad time, and he's just focused on one thing, and that's the NFL combine."
Eifert and Te'o were at the Irish men's basketball team's five-overtime win Saturday night against Louisville, as guests of ESPN color commentator Dick Vitale.
Projected by most draft analysts to be a first- or second-round pick, Eifert said he's ready to attack whatever weaknesses he might have to prove he can be a force at the next level. Asked to compare his game to a current pro's, he said he identified the most with the New Orleans Saints' Jimmy Graham.
"I'd just tell [scouts] that I do have weaknesses, and the thing about me is I'm not afraid to put in the extra work," Eifert said. "For me, getting to Notre Dame wasn't easy. I was said to be a tweener coming out of high school and didn't have all the big offers, but I made the extra effort getting up early, working out during basketball season, to really get that offer. So I do have weaknesses, but I'm not afraid to work on them to get better."
