A Notre Dame player won the Lott IMPACT Trophy last season. Can the Irish repeat?
Stephon Tuitt was one of 42 players to make the initial watch list for the award, which Manti Te'o won in 2012.
The award goes to the defensive player who has made the biggest impact on and off the field, with the acronym standing for Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics, Community and Tenacity.
Tuitt, a junior, is one of eight defensive linemen on the list. Surprisingly enough, Louis Nix is not among them.
Notre Dame this fall will face eight players who are on the watch list: Stanford's Henry Anderson and Ed Reynolds, Oklahoma's Aaron Colvin, Arizona State's Alden Darby, Pitt's Aaron Donald, USC's Devon Kennard, BYU's Kyle Van Noy, and Michigan State's Max Bullough, who is one of four repeat nominees from the 2012 watch list.
The award will be presented Dec. 8 during the 10th annual Lott IMPACT Trophy Black-Tie Awards Banquet at the Pacific Club in Newport Beach, Calif.
