2013 Top 25 Player Countdown: No. 16

No. 16 is, in some ways, the forgotten man on Notre Dame's defensive line.

No. 16: Sheldon Day, DE

Previous ranking: Not ranked

Making the case: Day played in all 13 games last season, his first in South Bend. He finished with 23 total tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss and two sacks. Now he finds himself starting for a defensive line that many consider to be the best in the country, alongside two potential top-10 NFL draft picks next spring. Notre Dame lost one of its biggest locker room presences with Kapron Lewis-Moore, and that will be hard for a first-year starter to replicate. But Day has displayed the talent and maturity to make his presence felt early on, and playing alongside the prized talents that he is can only provide more opportunities for the 6-foot-2, 286-pound former ESPN150 prospect.
