Tyler Eifert is one of eight semifinalists for the John Mackey Award, given to the nation's most outstanding tight end.
Eifert matched a career-high Saturday with eight catches for 83 yards, including a 34-yard touchdown reception in the fourth quarter for Notre Dame's final score.
The junior has 51 catches this season for 589 yards and five touchdowns, and he is just the second Irish tight end to have at least five touchdown in a season. Only Ken MacAfee, who scored six times in 1977, has more touchdowns in one season in a Notre Dame uniform.
The other seven Mackey Award semifinalists are Dwayne Allen (Clemson), Orson Charles (Georgia), Drake Dunsmore (Northwestern), Coby Fleener (Stanford), Ladarius Green (Louisiana), Jacob Pedersen (Wisconsin) and Nick Provo (Syracuse).
Three finalists for the award will be announced next Monday, Nov. 21. The winner will be announced Dec. 8.
