Report: Goodman back for fifth year

The fifth-year picture has cleared up a bit for Notre Dame, as John Goodman will be back for one last go-round with the Irish, BlueandGold.com's Dan Murphy reported Wednesday.

“He was hoping for his fifth year and that was the big thing, so the first hurdle is cleared,” the older (Adam) Goodman said. “The next hurdle is to get on the field and start and have a productive year.”

Goodman has 28 catches for 315 yards in his career. He also was the Irish's primary punt returner this season. He was one of 13 Irish seniors with a fifth year of eligibility remaining.

The Chicago Tribune reported Tuesday that nose guard Sean Cwynar would not be returning for a fifth season.

Notre Dame has yet to make any official announcement regarding those who will return for a fifth year. Braxston Cave, Mike Golic Jr., Kapron Lewis-Moore and Jamoris Slaughter figure to be the most likely to return.
