ND football players lead basketball cheers

The Notre Dame men's basketball team's rout of West Virginia featured a funny twist in the student section.

Leading the charge Wednesday inside the Joyce Center was Kapron Lewis-Moore, decked out in a fisherman's hat and holding giant big heads of former Irish hoops coach and current ESPN analyst Digger Phelps and injured forward Tim Abromaitis. Situated under the basket near the Mountaineers' bench, the defensive end was joined by teammates Mike Golic Jr., Matt Mulvey and Mike Grieco, who all provided energy throughout the night.

"I did see that. I like that," hoops coach Mike Brey said of Lewis-Moore. "I gotta get him signed up Friday and then every game next year, because that looked a little different in the legion down there. That was a different-looking legion there."

The scene was funny to watch all night, but it was also good to see players from the most high-profile sport on campus going over the top in their support for a team that is making national headlines but having trouble filling its own building. Seeing football players -- arguably the busiest students on campus -- find time to root on their fellow classmates and athletes can only be encouraging for the rest of the student body, and it speaks highly of their love for their school.
