No. 22. Robby Toma, WR
2011 numbers: Toma played in all 13 games last season, starting four in place of the injured Theo Riddick. The slot receiver did not disappoint, fearlessly going over the middle to catch 19 balls for 207 yards and a touchdown. He added one carry for 12 yards.
Making the case for Toma: Guys like Toma always seem under-appreciated until something goes wrong, as has been the case with Riddick's health the past two seasons. Without complaint, the 5-foot-9, 185-pound Toma has quietly stepped into the spotlight when needed. With the entire receiving unit needing to step up in the wake of Michael Floyd's graduation, he should only be better going into his senior year. Tony Alford is coaching the running backs and slot receivers this season, and we saw Toma get a few carries this spring. While we probably won't see him carrying 10-15 times a game — and we don't doubt him when he says he could handle the load -- it will be interesting to see how Notre Dame lines him up and uses him this season.
