Top 25 player countdown: No. 20

No. 20. John Goodman, WR

2011 numbers: Goodman played in all 13 games, starting one, and finished with seven catches for 65 yards and one carry for two yards. (He also misfired on his only pass attempt of the season.) He netted five yards on eight punt returns, which became his duty after Theo Riddick struggled early in the season.

Making the case for Goodman: It's easy to gloss over Goodman's numbers and think of him as just a small piece to the puzzle for Notre Dame this season. But this was a highly-recruited prospect who is now entering his fifth year, a season he has repeatedly said he is hoping to open some eyes with. Coach Brian Kelly called him the Irish's go-to guy in the spring, and Goodman was honored as the offensive captain for the Blue-Gold game, given to the most improved player in the spring. With no first-round draft pick (Michael Floyd) ahead of him, Goodman will try to have a renaissance senior campaign, much like that of running back Jonas Gray in 2011.
