A whirlwind eight-day span for Chris Salvi began with the former walk-on being rewarded a scholarship by coach Brian Kelly. It ended Saturday with his left hand held high in the Purcell Pavilion ring.
Salvi won the 188-pound title in the Bengal Bouts in a three-round split-decision over Adrian Moreno.
Salvi's brother, Brian, had claimed a third-round win Tuesday over Joe Garrity to clinch a spot in the 180-pound final but was unable to compete Saturday because of another commitment.
The Bengal Bouts, Notre Dame's annual charity boxing tournament, has benefited the Holy Cross Missions in Bangladesh since 1931.
