What to watch: Week 1 at Navy

What's worth keeping an eye on Saturday morning? Glad you asked. …

1. Everett Golson. So much of this game, this season, maybe even coach Brian Kelly's future, depends on how the first-time starter performs. That starts Saturday against an inexperienced defense that, like Golson, will be on the biggest stage of its life, far away from familiarity.

2. Receivers. There is plenty of talent among this group, but, with the exception of tight end Tyler Eifert, there is no go-to guy in the mold of Michael Floyd. This largely unproven unit will be counted on to help break Golson onto the big stage, and the opportunities will certainly be there for the taking. Look for DaVaris Daniels -- like Golson, a redshirt freshman -- to step up in his debut.

3. Atmosphere. Most of you will probably be watching this from a couch, up as early as you've ever been on a college football Saturday. Try not to be blinded by Notre Dame's Ireland-flag-colored cleats all over your big screen. This will be a neat experience wherever you are and, if recent history between these two programs is any indication, points will be plentiful, so there's no reason to crawl back into bed.
