HOUSTON – As expected, the Oakland Raiders signed rookie quarterback Tyler Wilson from their practice squad Saturday to back up fellow rookie Matt McGloin, who went undrafted out of Penn State, in Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans.
The Raiders cut defensive end Brian Sanford in the corresponding roster move.
McGloin will start for the Raiders in place of Terrelle Pryor, whose sprained right knee has not recovered enough for him to play against the Texans. Pryor suffered the injury against the Philadelphia Eagles on Nov. 3 and re-aggravated it against the New York Giants last week
Wilson, meanwhile, was the Raiders’ fourth-round draft choice out of Arkansas -- Oakland traded back in the round after the Eagles moved in front of the Raiders to select USC’s Matt Barkley. Wilson was cut at the end of training camp. When no one else picked him up, Wilson was signed to the practice squad.
Going into camp, the depth chart at quarterback read: Matt Flynn, Pryor, Wilson, McGloin.
