Ranking the Pac-10's 30 best players: No. 17

Charles Brown, OT, USC: Without the benefit of endlessly reviewing game film, ranking offensive linemen is always tricky, particularly on this list, which is -- as some have observed -- my own curious mix of college accomplishment and NFL prospects. There are a handful of offensive linemen who are not on the list, and a couple who probably should be. Moreover, as a fellow sportswriter e-mailed me Tuesday -- how do you handle the "whole USC thing"? Brown, who was recruited as a tight end, rates among the nation's best offensive tackles as far as NFL draft projections go. He's a lean 6-foot-6, 295 pounds and after starting every game last year, he figures to be a candidate for first-team All-Pac-10 and a first-day 2010 NFL draft pick.
