Top performances 2012: Ka'Deem Carey

We're looking at some of the top individual performances in the Pac-12 in 2012.

Up next: Record-setting rusher.

Who & against whom: Is there a more appropriate performance than this one to kick off the series? Arizona running back Ka'Deem Carey ran wild on Colorado in a 56-31 home victory, breaking a Pac-12 record that had stood for 28 years.

The numbers: Carey rushed for 366 yards and five touchdowns and also hauled in a couple of catches for 34 yards.

A closer look: The Buffs jumped out to a 7-0 lead three minutes into the game after recovering a fumble deep in Arizona territory. Cue Carey, who responded on the next drive and scored on a 10-yard touchdown run -- tying the game at 7-7. But the Buffs struck again to go up 10-7 after the first quarter, leading some to wonder if an upset was brewing. It wasn't. Carey went on to score two touchdowns in the second quarter on runs of 13 and 30 yards and then tacked on an 8-yard touchdown in the third and a 3-yard touchdown in the fourth. Along the way he gutted the Buffs for huge chunks, including a long of 71 that aided his 14.6 yards per carry average. His 366 yards broke the Pac-12's single-game rushing record which had stood since 1984. His five touchdowns matched the conference single-game rushing touchdown record and he became just the seventh player in college football since 2000 to rush for more than 3oo yards and score five touchdowns in a game.
