UCLA sophomore offensive guard Stanley Hasiak will not play this season because he did not meet NCAA academic eligibility requirements, the school announced Thursday.
“This is an unfortunate situation for Stanley,” coach Rick Neuheisel said in a statement. “I expect Stanley to work hard to ensure this situation does not occur again. We expect him to help us on the scout team this year and work himself into a contributor for 2011.”
Hasiak, who was listed as a backup guard behind Jeff Baca on the post-spring depth chart, will have three seasons of eligibility remaining and can count 2010 as a redshirt season.
This is a fairly significant blow for the Bruins, who are again thin and questionable on the offensive line.
Hasiak's career has been chaotic since he arrived as one of the top recruits in the 2009 freshman class. He ran afoul of team rules after recurring practice fights with teammates and then struggled with personal issues and left the team before returning this past spring.
