Oregon backup QB Roper transferring

Oregon's backup quarterback Justin Roper has been granted his release to transfer, the school confirmed Saturday morning.

The story was first reported by eDuck.

No details were available as of yet where the redshirt junior from Buford, Ga., planned to go.

Roper, the hero of the Ducks' 2007 Sun Bowl win over South Florida, started three games last year after projected starter Nate Costa went down with a knee injury. He then went down to his own knee injury, and Jeremiah Masoli became the starter and never yielded the job.

Roper is the second Duck to transfer after spring practices, joining projected starting receiver Aaron Pflugrad.

Roper's defection leaves the Ducks with Costa, a junior, and sophomore Darron Thomas behind Masoli at the position.
