Notes on Arizona State depth chart

Arizona State has released its spring depth chart, which you can see here, and there aren't really any shocking changes with the expected pecking orders.

Understand: the depth chart reflects players sitting out spring practices with injuries, so Jamaar Jarrett is starting at one defensive end ahead of the injured Junior Onyeali and Alden Darby is No. 1 at free safety, ahead of Keelan Johnson and Eddie Elder.

Here are some notable positions:

  • The three first-team receivers are T.J. Simpson, George Bell and Aaron Pflugrad.

  • The offensive line: left tackle Evan Finkenberg, left guard Mike Marcisz, center Garth Gerhart, right guard Andrew Sampson and right tackle Dan Knapp.

  • William Sutton and Bo Moos are the first-team DTs. Corey Adams is listed behind Moos.

  • There's an "OR" between Shelly Lyons and Colin Parker at strongside linebacker, so that competition is on-going. That's the only "OR" on the depth chart.

  • Osahon Irabor is No. 1 at the CB opposite Omar Bolden. Deveron Carr will challenge him this fall when he's healthy.

  • Jamal Miles is No. 1 for kick and punt returns.

  • Redshirt freshman Taylor Kelly is presently listed as the backup QB ahead of true freshman Mike Bercovici, who has showcased a powerful arm this spring.
