EUGENE, Ore. -- No. 9 Oregon leads No. 18 Arizona State 21-17 at the break in a game that has featured six personal fouls.
Turning point: Everything matters in big games. Sun Devils receiver Gerell Robinson caught a first down pass deep in Ducks territory late in the half, but he made a kick at Oregon safety John Boyett and was flagged for a personal foul, which pushed the Sun Devils back to the Ducks 37. On the next play, Cliff Harris intercepted Brock Osweiler in the endzone and returned the ball to the 50. The Ducks quickly covered the rest in three passing plays, the last a 12-yard toss from Darron Thomas to tight end David Paulson.
Stat of the half: Both quarterbacks have tossed bad interceptions, but other than that they've been on. Thomas completed 13 of 16 for 187 yards with two scores. Osweiler completed 19 of 26 for 172 yards and two touchdowns.
What Oregon needs to do and what Arizona State needs to do: Both teams need to do the same thing. Turnovers and penalties are playing a big role in this game. The team that cleans that up best is going to win.
