Pac-12: Did you know?

Some notes and numbers in advance of the Pac-12 title game between Oregon and UCLA. Many thanks to ESPN Stats & Information.

  • Oregon QB Darron Thomas has 60 career TD passes and is two shy of Danny O’Neil’s school record 62. O’Neil played at Oregon from 1991 to 1994.

  • Thomas is completing 51.4 percent of his passes thrown 20 yards or more downfield this season. Thomas has only thrown one interception in 35 attempts on these throws and that was on his first attempt of the season.

  • Oregon leads the FBS since the start of last season with 83 touchdown drives that lasted two minutes or less. The Ducks had three such drives against Oregon State last week and have had one in every game over the past two seasons, except for this season’s opener against LSU.

  • LaMichael James has rushed for more than 140 yards in six games this season, including last week against Oregon State. James only had three such games last season when he was a Heisman Trophy finalist.

  • James broke a 58-yard touchdown run against Stanford. It was Oregon’s sixth rushing touchdown of 50 yards or longer this season. No team in the nation has more 50-plus touchdowns than the Ducks

  • Win or lose in the Pac-12 championship game Rick Neuheisel, who is presently 21-28, will leave UCLA with the lowest winning percentage of any Bruins coach that spent at least 20 games at the school: .429. His predecessor, Karl Dorrell, was 35-27 for a .565 winning percentage.

  • UCLA is 6-6. Entering this season, there have been 63 conference championship games played among six conferences. Of the 126 teams that participated in those games, the only other one to enter without a winning record was Miami (OH) in 2007 at 6-6 in the MAC. The RedHawks were thumped by Central Michigan in that game, 35-10.

  • The road has not been kind to UCLA. In its past four road games this season, they’ve been outscored by 137 points. That’s an average of 34.3 PPG.

  • If Oregon wins, it goes to its second Rose Bowl in three years. But Oregon is 0-4 in its last four Rose Bowl trips. It hasn’t won the “Granddaddy of them All” since the 1916 season.
