BERKELEY, Calif. -- California has been outscored 62-3 over the past six quarters.
From No.6 in the nation, to that.
USC leads this one 20-0, and the Bears look no less listless than last weekend at Oregon.
Turning point: Cal came out on fire. Jahvid Best went for 8 yards on his first carry. Kevin Riley zipped two long passes that gave the Bears a first-and-goal. And then Riley threw an interception to Taylor Mays in the end zone. Since then, it's been all USC.
Stat of the half: Best rushed for 27 yards on eight carries in the first half, and with Cal down 20, he's not likely to get a bunch of second-half carries.
Best player in the half: USC receiver Damian Williams caught three passes for 39 yards and returned a punt 66 yards for a touchdown.
What USC needs to do; What Cal needs to do: USC should continue to work its offense and get after Riley on defense. Cal just needs to score. It also needs to show some pride and fight back in the second half. USC tends to slow down when it leads at half and rely on its defense, and Cal could -- as nutty as it sounds -- get back into this with just a couple of big plays.
