Arizona State senior linebacker Mike Nixon has been nominated for the 2009 Allstate/AFCA Good Works Team, which honors football players who make outstanding contributions in the areas of volunteerism and civic involvement.

Nixon, one of 106 nominees, volunteers as a mentor at Harris Elementary School in Mesa. Nixon also is on ASU's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and he was recognized as a "Sun Devil Star" for his community involvement, participation and leadership as an ASU student-athlete.

He also has been a Pac-10 First-Team All-Academic selection and an ESPN The Magazine First-Team Academic All-District VIII honoree each of the last two seasons.

He's not too shabby on the field either. He's played in 38 games over the past three seasons and led the defense in 2008 with 90 tackles and five interceptions, a total that was tied for first in the Pac-10.

This is the second consecutive season Arizona State has had a player nominated for this honor. Keegan Herring was selected to the 2008 Good Works Team.
