Former Utah graduate assistant Ilaisa Tuiaki has rejoined the Utes and will serve as fullbacks and tight ends coach.
Tuiaki spent the past three years as the running backs coach at Utah State. He was also USU's recruiting coordinator.
“Ilaisa did a great job for us when he was here as a graduate assistant and we are pleased to have him back on our staff,” Utah coach Kyle Whittingham said in a statement. “He is a high-energy, enthusiastic coach that has an excellent rapport with the players.”
Tuiaki worked with the linebackers when he was a graduate assistant for Utah in 2008. A Provo, Utah native, Tuiaki oversaw a stable of running backs at Utah State that ranked sixth nationally in 2011 — including the WAC Offensive Player of the Year in Robert Turbin.
"I'm really excited about the opportunity to be back coaching at Utah," Tuiaki said in a statement. "Coaching in the Pac-12 is a challenge I'm looking forward to and it's a step up for me professionally ... I loved working for coach Whittingham as a graduate assistant and this job is a natural fit for me."
