PITTSBURGH -- Veteran cornerback Brice McCain apparently did not have to see or hear much from the Steelers during his visit Tuesday, as he signed a one-year deal with the team.
McCain, who was released last month by the Texans, provides much-needed depth at cornerback. The fifth-year veteran joins Ike Taylor, Cortez Allen and William Gay as the only cornerbacks with significant NFL experience on the Steelers’ roster.
McCain, a sixth-round draft pick by the Texans in 2009, recorded 124 tackles and five interceptions in five seasons in Houston. McCain is only 27 and may still have some upside after falling out of favor in Houston.
His signing alleviates the Steelers’ short-term need at cornerback but they are still likely to draft two players at that position.
