The Playbook college football TV guide

We all have busy lives. Things to do. We can’t watch every college football game. So here are the best five you should watch this week. Five isn’t a lot. (All times are Eastern.)

5. No. 1 Alabama at Arkansas -- 3:30 p.m. on CBS

I circled this game on my calendar before the season as a must-see. But then Arkansas lost to Louisiana-Monroe and I'm left with a black permanent-marker circle on my iPhone screen. Pretty embarrassing. But not as embarrassing as this.

4. Louisiana-Monroe at Auburn -- 12:21 p.m. on ESPN3

The Warhawks won at Arkansas, so there’s no reason they can’t beat the 0-2 Tigers, too. A loss for Auburn would allow Gene Chizik to go from WORST COACH EVER to GREATEST COACH EVER back to WORST COACH EVER in an NCAA-record 45 months. You can do it, Gene!

3. Blowouts -- TBD

Four high-scoring Top 25 teams play FCS teams Saturday at home: Oregon (Tennessee Tech), West Virginia (James Madison), Clemson (Furman) and Arizona (South Carolina State). It’s going to be ugly. You'll need to cleanse your palate with something featuring far less brutality and bloodshed. Bravo is showing “Kill Bill: Vol. 2” on Saturday at 9 p.m. Give that a try.

2. No. 18 Florida at No. 23 Tennessee -- 6 p.m., ESPN

The “College GameDay” crew is in Knoxville for the first time since 2004. You can bet that Derek Dooley’s mom will lay out his best outfit.

1. No. 2 USC at No. 21 Stanford -- 7:30 p.m., FOX

Going on the road to play the ranked Cardinal is the only potential stumbling block for the No. 2 Trojans until late October. If they win and play well, we’ll have a prohibitive favorite for the team that will lose to some SEC team in the BCS title game.
