What is your most irrational fear?

Roller coasters. I’ve never been on one. I realize that millions of people do them and survive them, so it doesn’t make sense, but I won’t ride one.

Who would you want to play you in your biopic?

Matt Damon. He’s got a boyish face. He's older than me, but a boyish face and makeup does wonders.

What’s the most embarrassing CD you own?

The original 'N Sync album.

What’s your guilty pleasure?

Chocolate. Any form: ice cream, cake, brownies, candy bars.

What do you like best about your job?

Being able to sleep in almost every day.

What do you dislike about your job?

The uncertainty -- never knowing where you’re going to be on an almost daily basis. That’s especially hard when you have a family.

If you could go to dinner with one person, dead or alive, whom would it be? And where would you go?

I would eat at the White House with President Kennedy. The White House chef would cook for us.

What do you wish you were better at?

Directions. I'm terrible at them.

What’s the biggest lie or misconception the media has reported about you?

People poke fun at my height a lot, and it bugs me. Media have called me as short as 5’7”, but I’m a legitimate 5’9.”

Who would you say is the most media-savvy athlete?

Derek Jeter, because he’s in the world’s most difficult media market, and he’s handled everything with a lot of character and grace. I can only begin to imagine what he goes through on a daily basis.

Which pro athlete would you never want to trade places with?

How about Kelly Shoppach, because he has to squat all day and take a beating all season long? I’d never want to be a catcher, period, but we'll say Shoppach.

If you could go back and change one decision you made in your life, what would it be?

I would’ve thrown right-handed as a kid. I really wish I could play second base, so I would’ve thrown right-handed. I'm right-handed in everything else except how I play baseball.

What’s one thing you always have with you?

Food me. You have to, as a diabetic, so I squish Nutri-Grain bars in the back pocket of my pants.

If you were a talk-show host, which celebrity would you want as your first guest?

Michael Jordan.

What was your most unrealistic New Year’s resolution?

I tried to eliminate chocolate one year. Even for a month, I couldn’t do it.

If you had to pick one key to your success, what would it be?

My work ethic and drive. I know I wouldn’t be where I am if I didn’t overachieve.

What's your idea of a perfect day?

A good offseason day is waking up and hanging out with my kid, with my wife, and going to the beach. And using my grill to grill out that night. I’d go with chicken breasts—that’s our go-to—and grilled veggies, with some sweet potatoes in the oven.
