At Thursday's NFL draft, Robert Griffin III received the official call from the Washington Redskins at about 8:10 p.m. ET on his iPhone 3GS.
Yes, the iPhone 3GS. The same phone the second overall pick had two years ago.
“I need to upgrade because my battery dies all the time,” he says. “I’m going to upgrade pretty soon here, so hopefully no one gets on my case about it.”
Including his signing bonus, Griffin should make more than $15 million this year.
He’ll be able to afford an iPhone 4S – although money was never the issue for getting Siri and the newer version of the iPhone.
“Actually, I’m already due for an upgrade,” he said. “I just have to stop being lazy and go get my upgrade.”
You can take the kid out of college, but you can’t take college out of the kid. And at least he's got a better phone than Andrew Luck.
Another technology fact about RG3: He hates using headphones. He would walk around Baylor’s campus using a jawbone, which is a tiny phone attachment that amplifies music like a stereo.
“That’s why I got the nickname ‘The Walking Boombox’ in college,” he said. “I play my music out loud. You’re walking down the street and it’s like a portable boombox. I love that.”
