Check out Maika Monroe's 2012: Stars opposite heartthrob Zac Efron in the movie "At Any Price," gets called a future Meryl Streep in a news conference and finished in second place at a kiteboarding event in the Dominican Republic.

Wait ... kiteboarding?

Yes, Monroe is one of the top female kiteboarders in the world and hasn't given it up even though she's making a name for herself in Hollywood.

Kiteboarding (or kitesurfing) is an action sport where the power of the wind is harnessed to propel a rider across the water on a small surfboard/kiteboard, which is similar to a wakeboard.

"This year has been pretty insane. It's still a dream for me. I still can't believe it," said Monroe, who started kiteboarding after watching her dad do it while growing up in California. "My goal is to continue to act and still be a professional kiteboarder."

That might not be as far-fetched as it seems.

In 2013, Monroe will be starring alongside Kate Winslet and Tobey Maguire in "Labor Day" and then Emma Watson in "The Bling Ring," directed by Sofia Coppola.

"I've seen so many scripts, and I want to do everything," Monroe said. "Like with kiteboarding, you have to be fearless. I'm not scared. It's all been surreal."
