How would a potential fashion designer like to be in New York this week for Fashion Week but have to make promotional appearances for his real job and miss out on the shows?
That's OK for Aurelien Collin, a defender for Sporting Kansas City of Major League Soccer. He knows he has time to make his mark on the runway along with the soccer field.
"I'm like a kid in a candy store here," said the French-born, 26-year-old Collin, who joined 22 other stars of MLS to talk about the launch of their season in March. "I can't make it to the shows, but I do get a chance to see a lot of beautiful people walking around."
Collin isn't just a fan of fashion. He is finishing up the first part of a degree in men's fashion styling from CNFDI Paris. And he hopes to eventually get his own line.
"I'm from Paris, and everybody there takes care of themselves and gets dressed up all the time. Throw in the fact that my mother always bought fashion magazines, so no wonder I was into fashion so young," he said. "I'm ready to go on to the next step. It's going to get complicated once the season starts, but I'll try."
Collin, who has played for Kansas City for the past several years, said the Midwest is more laid-back, but he still gets ideas while living there.
"Music videos. Movies. People just walking down the street. You can see beauty anywhere," said Collin, who has created a style video series. "Kansas City has these amazing musicians and artists who show their fashion. Everybody has their own style."
