Although Shaquille O'Neal retired from the NBA in June 2011, he is everywhere these days: basketball analyst for TNT's "Inside the NBA," TV spokesman for Buick car company and the host of a new show on truTV debuting Thursday.
"I'm busier now than when I was playing," said O'Neal, who played nearly 20 years (1992-2011) for six teams. "This is all by design. I wanted to take advantage of all the opportunities coming my way."
On Tuesday, O'Neal was in Las Vegas promoting the relaunch of two of his shoes: 1992 Reebok Classic Shaq Attaq and 1995 Reebok Classic Shaqnosis. Shaq Attaq will be available April 19 for $160, while Shaqnosis will be available July 19 for $125.
"I was fortunate not to have just my own shoe but my two shoe lines," O'Neal said. "I was involved in the design and the execution of the shoe, and they are bringing them back."
Patrick Ewing, Dominique Wilkins, Allen Iverson and a host of other basketball greats have relaunched shoes to a whole new audience.
O'Neal said the relaunches are specifically geared toward sneakerheads, those who love to collect shoes. "All these young kids want the limited-edition shoes," he said, "and we're making them available."
And Thursday, O'Neal will star in "Upload," his new show on truTV, at 10:30 p.m. He looks at some of the best Web videos during the show.
"After that, I'm back to finishing up my bucket list," he said. "That would be law school and skydiving and even more fun things I can find."
