Tiger Woods said he can skateboard. Basketball star Kyrie Irving said he can, too.
With both represented by Nike, it was a no-brainer that they joined skateboarding legend Eric Koston in his new Nike TV commercial, released this morning, for his new shoe "The Eric Koston 2."
"I grew up riding pools and doing halfpipes as well growing up as a kid," Woods said in the behind-the-scenes video. "If there is any parallel, you need balance. ... You need an understanding of where you need to be in space."
Irving, who plays basketball for the Cleveland Cavaliers, still is trying to convince people he can skateboard.
"Hopefully, in the summer I can board with him," Irving said in the video. "Nobody thinks I can board, but I can, though."
Woods and Irving aren't the only ones in the video for the shoe, out April 1. It's a who's who of Nike athletes and skating stars: Brazilian soccer star Neymar Jr., Olympic track and field star Allyson Felix, snowboarder Danny Kass, skateboarders Sean Malto, Wieger Van Wageningen, Ishod Wair and Alex Olson, graffiti artist Neckface, photographer Giovanni Reda and Jake Phelps of Thrasher magazine.
"We dreamed pretty big to get everyone," said Koston from Tampa, where he's competing in the Tampa Pro 2013. "I'm glad everyone came together for the shoot. It wasn't easy."
Koston, 37, turned pro in 1993 and isn't thinking about retiring. Well, until someone else does first.
"It's a pretty fun job. If I didn't love this, I wouldn't be doing it," Koston said. "My body will tell me when it's time to leave. I'm just waiting until Tony Hawk quits first."
